Hampton Roads has some delicious locally owned coffee shops to try! Here are our top spots in the seven cities:
Peninsula Recommendations
Canvas Coffee House - Newport News
Must try: The Hedgehog (a drink), and stay a while to study or catch up with friends, or study (near CNU campus). Sweet Beans Coffee Bar - Hampton Local Tip: They put coffee ice cubes in their iced lattes (which are delicious), and you should try their homemade kolaches and cookies as well!
The Coffeehouse - Williamsburg Tip: While you are there, buy a freshly roasted bag of beans for home!
Tipsy Beans Cafe - Williamsburg
Insider Advice: This is a place that you can get more than just a coffee. In the mood for a full meal, appetizer, or adult beverage...this is your spot. We enjoyed our mud turtle latter while visiting along with appetizers off the menu!
Southside Favorites
Cure - Norfolk & Smithfield
Insider Tip: Their hummus and lunch sandwiches are tasty, along with their hot and cold coffee selection.
Fair Grounds Coffee - Norfolk/Ghent area
Local faves: Loose leaf tea and sugar free syrup selections make this place in Ghent a hit. Want to hang out with friends? They’ve got plenty of board games as well.
Gather - Western Branch area of Chesapeake
Why we like it: Great cold brew, and for lunch the avocado boat is treat. This place is ideal to study or work while sipping on your drink. Angela’s fave - Sweet shot over ice with an extra shot and two pumps of caramel, yum!
Pale Horse Coffee - Great Bridge/Hickory area of Chesapeake
Local tip: We love their creative lattes (cold or hot) off the menu and bags of coffee beans to-go. Angela’s go-to latte is the Guardian, and Bessie gets the Ricochet
17 Hands Coffee - Kempsville part of Virginia Beach
Insider advice: Their cakes are AHmazing. We like their cold brew and drip coffee to compliment their tasty baked treats.
Pour Favor - Kempsville/Greenbrier border in VB AND a location in north Suffolk.
Must try: Their coffee flights are a fun treat!
Other Places we L❤VE...
Coffee for a Good Cause: Coalescense coffee in the Norfolk Railroad district is a non-profit, so the coffee you buy there goes right back to support the community. We haven’t tried this place yet, but can’t wait to stop in and support the cause! https://coalescencecoffee.com/
Delivery (and my personal favorite): If you move to the area and want iced lattes delivered to your door, you NEED to look up Bold Coffee Co. out of Portsmouth, VA. To order: https://boldcoffeecodelivers.square.site/ . For their schedule: https://www.facebook.com/boldcoffeeco/ My faves: Campfire Mocha or Caramel. If you like your drink a little less sweet ask for ½ the sweetness. Fully or ½ sweet, these lattes are smooth and such a treat to have at home!
